Author Guidelines

The Editorial Board of Literary History receives manuscripts for consideration throughout the year. After an editor's reading and approval, the paper is forwarded for a double-blind peer review. In order to be published, the paper has to receive two positive reviews. The author is entitled to an extract of the review, with the reviewer's name left out. Considering the growing number of submitted manuscripts and a relatively small number of carefully selected peer reviewers, the review procedure lasts approximately ten to eighteen weeks. The period between the paper's submission and its approval or rejection should not exceed eighteen months.

In order to make the reviewing and printing procedures simpler and easier, it is very important for all submitted contributions to be comprehensibly formatted and to contain all necessary elements. Please study the following guidelines carefully.

Submission

Papers in an electronic form (.doc или .docx) should be submitted online at the journal’s website, and book reviews should be sent to the Editorial Board’s e-mail address, sekretar@knjizevnaistorija.rs. We kindly ask you to adhere to the given guidelines, so your paper can be taken into consideration as soon as possible.

  1. Session selection and entry of basic submission data
  2. Document submission: it is necessary to submit the following separately:
  • The manuscript;
  • All figures and illustrations (include relevant captions) in in the corresponding files.
  1. Metadata entry
  • the abstract in Serbian and English
  • the name(s) of author/all co-authors
  • the language of the paper
  • supporting institutions (if the paper is a result of a project) in Serbian and English
  • references (all the references have to be separated by a blank line – Enter; written in Roman; if DOI number is available, please add)
  • keywords in Serbian and English (keywords should be entered one by one and separated by a Tab on the keyboard)

Text anonymity
In order to provide the highest possible level of anonymity during the review procedure, it is necessary to remove all comments or references from the manuscript that could point to the author’s identity. If the manuscript is accepted for publication, the author can reinsert the necessary comments during the final revision.

Language, script, and the general format of the manuscript
The papers can be published in Serbian (Ekavian or Ijekavian, in the Cyrillic script) i.e. in Croatian or Bosnian, as well as English, German, French or Russian. The text should have a line spacing of 1,5 and use the Times New Roman font, the prescribed letter size is 12 pt i.e. 9 pt for the footnotes. If a quotation is longer than three lines of text, it should be formatted as a separate text passage and written in 10 pt-sized letters. Accepted text length is 30000 to 60000 characters (with spaces).

Scientific criticism, appraisals, and reviews
Reviews, appraisals, and scientific debates should include the full title of the reviewed publication, the author’s or editor’s full name, place of publication, publisher, date of publication, and a number of pages, printed in brackets beneath the review’s title.
•  Bojan Đorđević. Molière in Dubrovnik. Belgrade: Institute for Literature and Art, 2011, 242 pp.)
•  Characters of Oral Literature. Collection of papers. Ed. Snežana Samardžija. Београд Belgrade: Institute for Literature and Art, 2010, 314 pp.)

Studies, monographs, overviews, scientific articles, materials and essays
All contributions should contain the following:
1. Title (written in uppercase, e.g. THE POETICS OF STORYTELLING IN A. CAMUS’ L’ ÉTRANGER)
2. Keywords in Serbian, i.e. the primary language of the paper (up to ten keywords)
3. Abstract (150–250 words) – should contain basic research hypothesis and methodological framework of the article
4. Text of the contribution
5. Bibliography (only the titles quoted or mentioned in the text). The bibliography should be listed alphabetically, according to the paper’s script (Cyrillic or Latin), and without enumeration.
All units are listed in the script they were originally printed in, but according to the chosen principle of listing (Cyrillic or Latin alphabet). Contributions and monographs by the same author are listed chronologically. When listing single units, please use the “Last name, first name” model.
6. Sources
4. Title, summary, and keywords in one of the following languages: English, French, German, or Russian. The summary (400–500 words) should contain an overview of research results. If the author is unable to submit a high-quality translation, he/she can write a summary in his primary language and the Editorial Board of Literary History will provide a translation.

Keywords and abstract in Serbian (i.e. the paper primary language) should be positioned immediately after the paper’s title, while the bibliography, sources, title, summary, and keywords in the second language should be positioned after the text.
