Abstract

The paper analysed local character anecdotes which describe the protagonist’s supposed encounter with the supernatural. We examined their poetic characteristics and emphasised the similarities and peculiarities of the anecdote in comparison with demonological-mythological legends. Both the anecdote and the demonological legend approach the theme of the encounter with the supernatural in their own way and in accordance with their own poetic and genre laws. The paper highlighted the relation to truth and credibility of both genres, as well as their tendency to transpose elements of reality into their narrative worlds. This essay aimed to provide a comprehensive description of specific narrative strategies that storytellers use to shape folk anecdotes whose teme is an alleged human encounter with a supernatural force.
