The Status of Svetozar Ćorović Literary Work in History and Reviews of Serbian Literature
Written to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the writer's birth

The study points out the place of Svetozar Ćorović and his literary work in histories and reviews of Serbian literature: from Jovan Grčić, Jovan Skerlić, David Bogdanović, Tihomir Ostojić and Andre Gavrilović, Đorđe Anđelić and Miloš Savković, all the way to Antun Barac, Velibor Gligorić, Slavko Leovac, Jovan Deretić, Predrag Palavestra, Radovan Vučković, Petar Milošević, Aleksandar Pejčić, Milorad Jevrić and Goran Maksimović. Representative works of Ćorović are presented, realistic and modernist stylistic and poetic features are pointed out, as well as genre features: from short stories and dramas to social novels. In early syntheses, he was only mentioned in passing, but in more recent literary-historical reviews, with different understandings of the genre nature of his work, a similar belief was formed that the work of Svetozar Ćorović is artistically valuable, and that he reached high achievements in the era of realism and modernity in Serbian literature.
