In the introductory part of the paper, the conceptual framework for studying literary costume design is presented. The genesis of the project, inspired by a focused reading of literary texts with a focus on the clothing of literary characters, is traced. The paper explores the communicational codes of clothing (the semanticization of age, gender, profession, social relations, ritual functions...) and emphasizes the intermedial and interdisciplinary nature of the study. Clothing in literary texts, as well as in portraits and sculptures, is analyzed. Interdisciplinary teaching brings together the research of literary scholars, ethnologists, fashion historians, and professors of applied arts.
